The Real Meaning of Meditation

When someone makes a mistake his guide asks, “Where is your focus?” It is a natural question. While telling someone to complete a task, people generally say, do it mindfully with rapt attention. You would have experienced it as well in your day-to-day life.

So, why such emphasis on focus and mindfulness?

Because they help you in applying your total consciousness on a single task and when you do anything in such a way, success is inevitable. On the other hand, distractions affect your performance. Progress becomes difficult if you are doing anything with low concentration.

Therefore, in life, you should learn how to focus and concentrate on all that is important. Enhance your power of concentration by practising meditation regularly.

In the realm of spirituality and conscious living, meditation (Dhyan) helps you in achieving focus as well as mindfulness. It is a technique through which a seeker prepares the mind to develop focus and concentration while connecting it to a higher goal that could be personal growth, a healthy body, inner peace, or anything else.

Moreover, meditation has other dimensions as well.

When the Mind Turns into a Mirror

Meditation denotes the complete absence of any thought in the mind; total serenity in this otherwise turbulent space, and in some special cases, a complete absence of the mind itself. That happens when you connect yourself to a Higher Power through meditation, forgetting your physical existence. For this one must learn meditation from a God-realized master and tame your mind to focus precisely.

For that matter, what is the mind?

The mind is a wonderful tool that keeps generating thoughts; a tool that contemplates and reflects on the emerging thoughts. The mind works at the speed of light or faster. It is also true that the mind can pay attention to a single thought at a time. It cannot reflect upon two dissimilar thoughts simultaneously. To improve the efficiency of the mind, meditate.

If you want to meditate, you have to pacify all the thoughts and emotions that are emerging in your mind. It’s like silencing all the voices that are reverberating in this chaotic space ceaselessly. And as soon as your mind enters the state of no-mind, it works like a clean mirror. A mirror in which you can see your reflection clearly, you can think with clarity and focus.

So, the absence of thoughts is meditation, being totally thoughtless is meditation, getting connected to the Self is meditation, breaking the connection with the outer world and staying concentrated in your inner world is meditation. And when the mind turns into a mirror, it is meditation.

When you achieve such a state of mind, then there is no space left for anxiety or worries. You get available to the divine space of progress and peacefulness.

Meditation is a Miracle

Understand that your mental focus enriches attributes. If it is focused on hatred, you’ll see nothing but hatred all around. If it is focused on love and care, it will expand the attribute of affection, care and compassion in you. If it is focused on courage, it will make you courageous naturally. If the concentration lies on cowardice, it will turn you into a coward.

And if the mind focuses on developing the virtue of patience, it can make you a ‘God of patience’. Therefore, it’s been said that meditation is miraculous. It can bring out miracles from the depths of human consciousness.

Meditation is Also about Falling in Love with Life

At times, people feel a sort of void in their life. They don’t like anyone and sometimes they dislike even themselves, including their home, family, and work. They don’t want to meet anybody. If they go somewhere, they get anxious and when nobody invites them to their place, they become even more anxious.

They constantly live in deep anxiety. For them, nothing in life is according to their wish. Such people face fear and strong attachment. They are afraid of losing their relationships, job and wealth. Such people start living in the perils of the outer world- a world which is full of materialism and self-centeredness. It affects their inner peace immensely, leading sometimes to a complete loss of interest in the world.

Meditation takes such people back to the beauty of life through inner rejuvenation. It makes them like a child who is deeply in love with life.

Thus, the meaning of meditation is innocence, blissfulness, and consciousness. It enables seekers to bathe in the nectar of super consciousness. Learn to meditate. It will take you to a new level of material as well as spiritual progress.
