Stop Violence against Women

Always Respect Everyone’s Struggle

Compassion, concern, and respect for others should be the normal way of life. But unfortunately, the world is a bitter place for a large number of men, women, and children. For them, the world is filled with violence and conflict. Gender-based violence is still rampant and in many cases, the culprits are family members who are habituated to ignoring other person’s struggles.

It can and must be disallowed.

Stopping such violence may begin with strong-willed survivors, ending harmful social norms, and empowering women & girls through skill development.

Needless to say- every man and woman deserves a violence-free life where their everyday struggle is being respected. Everyone must accept that humans are imperfect. There must be a natural outpouring of respect for each man, woman, and child.

And most importantly, you should stop waiting for others to show respect to fellow humans, and start leading by example.

Here’s how you can begin.

1.Understand

Understanding other people’s feelings is a fundamental way of respecting them. Everyone wants others to understand their struggle. Everyone wants to feel the warmth in a relationship. People want to be understood. And when you give fellow humans your focus and attention, you understand and support them in their efforts that convey respect naturally.

2. Affirm

When you affirm someone, you are showing that they matter in your life; they are valuable and worthy of your respect. Simply affirming a person assures that you respect him or her in the real sense; but how to affirm someone? Notice something optimistic about others and tell them.

“Your efforts towards household activities and job show your determination to run this family.”

“You were amazingly courageous when dealing with that troubling period of life.”

“Your presence matters for me.”

Moreover, it’s alright if you are unable to respect every aspect of the fellow person, but still, you can give them the needed respect at the level that affirms them.

3. Help

God has given you life to help others. Think deeply and you’ll find that life is really all about serving others. Your parents did that and, somehow, you would also try to do the same with your children and loved ones.

In fact, all your endeavours should revolve around a wish to help others and to give back to others for all the struggles they undergo. Helping others also shows you care and this caring shows your respect which is the end of all kinds of violence.

4. Be Humble

It’s really terrible to see the decline of humility in the highly-competitive world of today. Whether it’s on the road, in public places, or in families – ‘humble communication’ is rapidly becoming invisible. Although it’s not easy to be humble all the time yet, at times, a simple act of humility can be practised that can change a person’s entire day and sometimes, a person’s entire life.

Humility lifts spirits instantly!

So, if you want to show respect for someone, start by being humble towards them even in conflicting situations.

5. Show Gratitude

Thankfulness is becoming increasingly rare these days. Know that everyone seeks some appreciation and showing gratitude is the way to give that.

It’s not so much that you require to show some thankfulness to those who are struggling in day-to-day life. They could be your husband, wife, children, or anyone either in the family or in society. Saying thanks to them is just another way to show some respect.

A habit of gratitude also ends conflicts

Hence, inscribe this in your heart that one of the characteristics of civil society is the showing of respect to fellow humans. Other members of a family and society are worthy of respect. No one deserves to face conflict or violence over any issue. No one likes to be treated badly in any case. And only mutual respect would ensure a conflict-free future for everyone.

So, always try to build meaningful, loving, and mutually-beneficial relationships showing respect to all. It will ensure a beautiful and violence-free life for everyone.

P.S. According to the UN, violence against women and girls (VAWG) is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today. Nearly 1 in 3 women have been abused in their lifetime. In times of crises, the numbers rise, as seen during the COVID-19 pandemic and humanitarian crises, conflicts and climate disasters. And every year, 25 Nov is commemorated as ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’ to raise awareness about the appalling issue.
